Zimmer is who I wanted for the Vikings as soon as it became apparent that Frazier was gone.

As usual, the Browns are standing around with the thumb firmly implanted in their a$$ while all the coaches are snapped up.

Oh, I am sure they have their eyes on someone.  The high school basketball season is not over yet.  Maybe they are scouting yet...

Obviously I'm very excited.  Sorry, Wiley.  I know it's a bummer.

My preference would have been to get rid of Marvin Lewis and promote Zimmer to Head Coach.

Reading reports the linebacker coach Paul Guenther is the new DC (which was expected).

Going to be tough losing both coordinators, but the promotions from within at least keeps some continuity.

I like this logic.  Marvin Lewis, although a good guy, has had a leash 10 miles long.

I like Lewis, but I think Zimmer has a chance of being a better HC.

In my little dream world, Lewis would have been promoted to GM, Zim to HC and Guenther to DC.  Too bad Mike Brown never would have given up the power.

Even though Lewis has Cincy in, essentially, mediocrity...he's still a hero?  Or, is it just because he's not an egotistical @$$hole?

Probably because he has actually had them in the playoffs. Not many people can say they took the Bengals to the playoffs 5 times, even if he did lose all of those games.

In my opinion (maybe not shared by all/most Bengals fans), Lewis has worked wonders with the Bengals as far as personnel.  Great moves with some great players and staff.

People point to his early years in Cincy, but what they don't realize is that he basically had no control over the personnel.  He had to work with what he was given, because Mike Brown called all the shots.  When Lewis' contract was extended in early 2011, he demanded more control in order to stay.  I don't believe it's a coincidence that in 2011, Ochocinco, T.O. and Palmer among others did not come back.  I also don't believe that it is a coincidence that since 2011, the team has made it to the play-offs each year while building a young and immensely talented team.

My problem with Lewis is more his in game management.  Clock management, challenges, etc.  Although, that seems to have improved in the past year.  I just believe he'd make a better GM than Brown, and then promote Zimmer to Head Coach.  Zimmer's D always came ready to play (except in play-off games, when the whole team has pretty much sucked it up).

Eh Zimmer's D did the best they could in this year's playoff game, with all the injuries and Dalton putting them in horrid situations.

I was just looking at the stats of the four play-off games that Zimmer was DC for, the other day. I saw 1 total turnover and giving up an average of something like 130-150* rushing yards a game (pulling this from memory, so I could be a little off on the specifics).

However, you are correct that the O did nothing to help, and the injuries this year have been bad.  I guess I'm just spoiled, because all season long I've watched the D overcome devastating injuries and sometimes horrible QB play.

_____

*Had to finally go back and look it up.  The defense gave up 178.3 yards rushing average in the four playoff games Zimmer was DC for.  Granted, the other teams were ahead most of the games, but that is still a lot of rushing yards..

Cincy has done a good job at getting to a level and maintaining it.  A few breaks and a player or two and they do a lot more.  The AFC North minus the Browns has been a tough ass division over the past decade.

Marvin Lewis is a poor man's Andy Reid.  Good solid coach, great guy, but we've seen the ceiling.
