Couldn't the Ravens cut him and pay him nothing? He'd still count against the salary cap, but I can't imagine the NFL Players Union would want to file a grievance given the circumstances.
good call

It's the right move, although it's unfortunate that the Ravens did not have the courage to do this immediately after the initial footage and accounts of the incident.

NFL has followed suit with an indefinite suspension as well.

Here's my thought process...the NFL knew that she got knocked out - 2 game suspension.
Now you see the footage - potential life time ban.
But didn't they just come out with a rule that it would be 6 game suspension for 1st offense.

And even if Ray Rice would have played a game this year, no way he makes it out of the game healthy.

damn
But really, what did everyone expect "punching his girlfriend in the face" to look like?
Interesting how stuff like this has a bigger impact when you actually see it.

I guess thats whats going to damn Goodell. Did he see her being dragged off the elevator or did he see the entire punch when he made his 2 game decision. If he saw the entire video and basically did nothing until it went viral, he is going to look pretty weak.

Ray Rice cut, NFL suspended him indefinitely.... Is Goodell's job in jeopardy?

Which simply goes to support the fact that it was TMZ that cut Ray Rice, not the Ravens.

That, and Facebook blows.

First things first, I don't condone or excuse Ray Rice's actions, and I think he deserved a longer suspension than 2 games. That said, I don't understand what happened today.
Rice already admitted that he hit her and knocked her out. What did they think that would look like on video? Did they think she fell into his fist?
Supposedly, he was forthright and contrite when he answered questions from the Ravens and Goodell. Afterward, Goodell handed down the two game suspension, and there was a justifiable uproar from the public. That spurred the league to enact a tougher domestic violence policy.
Now the video comes out and he is cut by the Ravens and suspended indefinitely from the league? While I don't agree with the original suspension, the events today don't seem right to me either.
He already admitted his actions, and received his punishment. Looks like the NFL and the Ravens are trying to offer up the proverbial prisoner to an angry mob, and hope it all blows over. Seems like a good attorney could work that into a pretty large lawsuit against the NFL, especially if the footage was available to Goodell when he suspended him the first time.
Am I right or wrong?
I believe that league officials saw this video BEFORE Goodell rendered his decision to suspend Rice for 2 games. I think the policy was weak and badly flawed but it was the policy and Goodell decided to roll with it. Now due to the huge public backlash he has come out with a revised policy that stiffens the penalties considerably - this has also accelerated the rework being done on the equally flawed doping policy, to reduce its impact.
So the NFL and the NFLPA have painted themselves into a corner from which they cannot easily escape. The guy who is the proverbial scapegoat is Rice - he absolutely deserved to be punished, probably should be charged with assault and battery, but for him to be released and then suspended indefinitely for actions he already admitted to and was punished for, however weak that was, is just plain wrong. I think an out of court settlement between Rice and the NFL is what could be the ultimate outcome here.
Welcome to the CFL Ray? NOT! Even they have banned him now too.
Oh, to answer your question - you are right.

On a positive note...one Josh Gordon could be back under the new doping policy.

Supposedly the NFL is saying they never saw the video. I call BS on that. The hotel said they turned it over the the police and NOT to TMZ which means someone leaked it to them.
I don't think it's a case of TMZ stirring up ****. The video had not been shown and they had every right to show it, and show just how violent of a hit it was. Not only that the pure lack of concern showed me this was NOT the first time Rice has hit a woman. Hell- he was obviously PISSED that she wouldn't get up and out of the elevator after he knocked her out.
And I'm sorry but she is a complete idiot for turning around and apologizing for her actions leading up to the assault and marrying him. I've been there. Once was enough for me to leave a marriage.
Now- with all that off my chest, I agree that the release of the video is what got Rice fired and not his disgusting actions to begin with. Rice told the NFL and the Ravens he hit her and knocked her out and was punished (no matter how leniently). To turn around after the fact is a case of double jeopardy. I'm sure somewhere there is a clause that the NFL cannot punish you twice for the same offense. But- will Rice pursue it?
